Bikery Open Shop Nights

Just like Bike Church in West Philly and Bike Salon in North Philly, we now operate our own Open Shop every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 9. We call it Bikery. Drop in and use our tools and our expert advise from our facilitators and you will have your bike working correctly in no time. All donations that come in during Bikery build our base for doing children's programming, such as Earn A Bike classes.

Pictures of our first Bikery coming soon.

Open Shop Nights Starting Soon

Great news! Our South Philly shop has been slowly coming together and we are ready to announce our very first open shop night on Wednesday September 22nd from 6:30 to 9pm. This will be similar to West Philly's Bike Church program. We'll also be holding a few "soft opening" preview nights before that date. Details will be coming soon.

It's Coming Together Now

Last night we held our first big volunteer get together at the new shop and outlined our programming and got an idea of who was interested in what. We also put forward a plan to prepare the shop for programs (such as Open Shop, yet to be named) and discussed facilitator trainings for volunteers. It was really great to get a lot of input from the people who came out and great to meet some new folks who are excited about doing this bike cooperative in South Philly

HEY! We finally have a shop!

After all of these months, doing programming at schools and libraries and community centers and anywhere that would take us, we finally have our own place to call home.

We've acquired 508 S. 5th Street and will be shaping the shop up over the next few weeks. Come and stop by this Friday the 25th from 5pm to 8pm. Have a look at the space, get an up close perspective of what work we need to have done, pop open a cold beverage with us to celebrate this awesome new step.

Again, we're at 508 S. 5th Street (where the Wooden Shoe used to be, between South and Lombard on 5th).

Special thanks to the South Street Headhouse District for opening the door for us! And extra extra special thanks to Tattooed Mom's for all of their support over these many months.

Congratulations to our first Earn A Bike class from Southwark School

Everyone at Neighborhood Bike Works South Philly is very very proud of all of our students from the Earn A Bike classes we held in partnership with United Communities at Southwark School.

Special thanks to Jesus Soto from United Communities and to our wonderful volunteers from NBW . Without the help of Anthony Gibilisco, Annie Ellerman-Priest, David Looby, Allen Hall, and Erin Boyd our class would not have been such fun and such a success. Also extra thanks to David Cicero Bevacqua, Program Director from the NBW West Philly who gave us such great support, encouragement, and guidance. We appreciate all of you.

Volunteers Needed for Fleisher Artspiration!

NBW SouthPhilly has the honor of being asked by Fleisher Art Memorial to help out with the creation of Scraper Bikes during their June 26th Artspiration. We're looking for anyone to come out and volunteer and help kids and adults in the community create some scraper bikes. Don't know what they are? Check out the links on the bottom.

If you've wanted to volunteer with us in the past, this is a great opportunity to get to know other NBW SouthPhilly volunteers and members of the larger South Philly community.

Welcome

We're starting a Neighborhood Bike Works in South Philly. Currently we are planning and implementing programming for Spring and Summer of 2010, some in cooperation with South Philadelphia community organizations. We are also in the process of searching for a permanent space to hold classes for both youth and adults.

In the next few days we hope to have more news and updates to kick off the warmer weather.
